Big time football? Repurposed Jeep Heating Core Art? A pre-dawn key fob hero? Meet modern renaissance man Michael K. in this installment of Five Questions…
What is your role at MELE and what part of your job is the most rewarding?
I am the Compliance Analyst for MELE. My primary goal is to ensure MELE complies with the industry’s laws and regulations.
What I like about my job is being part of an organization that provides so much to their employees. Working with a wonderful group of individuals while enjoying group activities from potluck lunches to over-the-top holiday parties with extravagant gift opportunities company wide.
Who could ask for more? No, I wasn’t paid to say that!!!
You’re a veteran member of the MELE HQ early bird crew. What do you like about arriving way before the office is abuzz with activity?
I’ve always been an early riser and getting into the office early allows me to get a jumpstart on my day… and besides somebody’s gotta be there to open the door for all of you who forget your key fob. (Ahem! Steve S.).
You lead MELE’s ISO 9001 certification process. What is ISO 9001 and why is it important to MELE?
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies. ISO is a non-governmental organization that comprises standards bodies from more than 160 countries, with one standards body representing each member country. ISO 9001 is a globally recognized standard for quality management. It helps organizations of all sizes and sectors to improve their performance, meet customer expectations and demonstrate their commitment to quality.
ISO Certification verifies that MELE operating procedures follow the international operating standards and MELE procedures are carried out as stated in the MELE QMS (Quality Management System.)
What’s your favorite hobby or hobbies and why?
I love fishing… even though I do very little “catching.” And I recently got a portable fold-up kayak that I’m having a lot of fun with! I also love baking chocolate chip cookies and bringing them into the office. You’re welcome, HQ!
What is something your colleagues might not know about you that would surprise them?
I was a pretty fair athlete back in the day…played football at Florida State. More recently, however, I’m usually the worst player on the softball team.
I would also call myself a gadget guy. I will try to restructure, reuse, and create items from what I see around me.
For example, here’s my buddy Artie, a heating core I replaced in my jeep.
