Five Questions with Jamie K.

Five Questions with Jamie K.

Nearly everyone at MELE has experienced something Jamie K. has helped pull together, whether that’s one of MELE’s famous holiday parties, its annual charity golf tournament, or another social/team building event.

But did you know she is an avid biker and a vinyl enthusiast? Read on to learn more about what makes Jamie tick.

What is your role at MELE and what do you enjoy the most about it?

In my role as Executive Assistant, I support the CFO and help plan both large- and small-scale events throughout the year. What I enjoy most is being able to use my creativity and seeing months of hard work come to fruition. I connect with employees across the country, and I especially value the opportunity to meet coworkers in New Mexico when I travel there each year. It’s also been a great opportunity to keep building my skills along the way.

As a key member of the Social Committee, you get to play a role in creating and protecting MELE’s culture. Given your unique perspective, how would you define MELE’s culture to someone from outside the organization?

I’d describe the culture at MELE as collaborative and people focused. We work hard but also make space for connection and team building. We host events throughout the year that bring people together, celebrate wins, and strengthen relationships across the organization.

What is your favorite album of all time and why?

That’s a tough one. I have favorites across different genres. But I’ll go with Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon. Some of my favorite childhood memories are listening to vinyl records with my dad, and that album in particular. Lyrically, it’s just raw and deeply human.

You’re a motorcycle enthusiast. What parts of biker culture do you love and what can you do without?

What I love most about motorcycle culture is the sense of community and freedom. Riding feels both grounding and exhilarating. It brings mental clarity and forces you to be fully present in the moment. What I could do without are the stereotypes and, at times, the excessive competitiveness and associated risks that can show up on the track. In that environment especially, it’s important to maintain balance and prioritize safety for everyone.

Choose your superpower: flight, mindreading, or invisibility. Explain your answer.

Of the three, I would choose flight as my superpower. I love to travel, go on adventures and explore new places. It would give me the ability to go anywhere, anytime and see the world from a different perspective.
