Five Questions is a series where we ask a MELE team member—yes, you guessed it—five questions. We hope this new Five Questions series will help you put a face to a name and get to know one of your colleagues a little bit better.
First up is Dwayne F. Dwayne is a Program Manager at MELE who works in the Washington, D.C. location.
What do you do in your current role and what did you do prior to joining MELE?
I manage the program Logistics & Readiness project for an office within the Department of Energy(DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Prior to joining MELE I worked for the Logistic Management Institute (LMI) in Tysons Corner, Virginia, as a Senior Consultant/Senior Policy Advisor for Supply Chain Management. I provided program analysis for sustainment and modernization requirements for bulk fuel and energy electronic accounting for the Marine Corps. I also served as Subject Matter Expert for ordering, delivery, management, and storage of bulk and retail fuel operations while coordinating with the Defense Logistics Agency Energy and other inter-agencies.
What is the best part of your job and why?
The best part of my current job is the ability to serve the public. As a retired Army Chief Warrant Officer, I took great pride in serving my country for more than two decades, so I am extremely thankful to be given another opportunity to serve our great county in such an impactful capacity. In addition, I am extremely appreciative to work with such a talented and dedicated team that I work with at the NNSA.
How do you eat your pizza (straight up, fold over, knife and fork) and why is this the best technique in your opinion?
I am originally from Roosevelt, Long Island in New York so the only way is to fold a gigantic slice, embrace it and eat the slice with your hands while it’s hot and cheese burns the inside of your mouth.
What is your favorite musician or band and why do you enjoy listening to them?
I love all genres of music. Music rejuvenates my spirit. I grew up on hip hop (formerly known as disco rap) in the mid-1970s in New York City. My favorite artists are Nas and Public Enemy. Public Enemy more importantly is also originally from Roosevelt, Long Island in New York and my oldest Auntie, Frances Foster, DJ’d with some of the members of Public Enemy.
What is something about you that might surprise your colleagues?
That I served in the United States Army and I use to be a Senior Drill Sergeant Instructor. My colleagues say I have reserved demeanor, and they can’t see me being unwavering. They are also surprised that I am an entrepreneur, and I own an Inspired created clothing line, All Gas No Brakes (AGNB). The Brand of All Gas No Brakes is not a typical catchphrase but it’s the way you lead, love, and live your life. Prioritize your health before wealth. Pray to be better despite all that you have been through. Love yourself first. Focus your mind to be great. Challenge your body. Change your spirit. Channel your emotions. Be the best version of you. Be all God created you to be while promoting, encouraging, and demanding equality for all.
