Five Questions with Sandra D.

Ice skating. The D.C. scene. Thematic cakes. Learn all about our colleague Sandra D. in this installment of Five Questions.

What do you do at MELE and what’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Since December 2021, I have worked as a Program Analyst at MELE supporting the Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration. My role involves collaborating with federal personnel, congressional representatives, military members, contractors, and support staff in the use control community. With experience in Defense Programs since 1989, I ensure effective communication across DOE, the Department of Defense, and related parties.

What does providing support to the Department of Energy’s mission mean to you?
Over the years, the ability to effectively assist with various aspects of Defense Programs in support of the DOE mission has been my top priority and goal. I take a lot of pride in contributing to project completion and meeting customer objectives.

What are the best and worst parts of living in the Washington, D.C. region?
Living in the D.C. region offers convenient access to landmarks, shops, parks, and waterfronts. Residents such as myself and family members enjoy plenty of dining and local attractions, like the Downtown City Plaza. While public transportation and rideshare options are available, rush hour traffic and parking remain shared challenges.

Cake or pie? Defend your answer.
Given my limited preference for only sweet potato and coconut custard pie, I opt for cake. I value the extensive selection of cakes that are available. Since my birthday falls just days before Halloween, I have traditionally enjoyed combining celebrations with cakes decorated in Halloween themes, which I found particularly enjoyable during my childhood.

What’s one item on your “Bucket List?”
Ice skating is included on my bucket list because I consider it to be a challenging activity.
