MELE Gives Back: Rob R. Shares Equestrian Knowledge with Local Boy Scout Troop

Nuclear Safety Training Program (NSTP) Ops Planner and MELE team member Rob R. recently partnered with New Mexico Boy Scout Troop 126 to support their equestrian training and evaluation. Rob, an expert horseman, taught the Scouts of Troop 126 best practices around:

  • Horse care
  • Identifying common equine health concerns
  • Riding basics
  • Identifying and learning how to use essential equipment

“I’ve had the opportunity to support both the Girl and Boy Scouts with equestrian events. Each time it has been a privilege to share my experience. These events have allowed me to combine my background in horsemanship and mentorship in my post military life, creating meaningful learning opportunities for Scouts,” stated Rob R.

“Rob is such an incredible asset to MELE and to NSTP. It’s no surprise to me and his colleagues at MELE that he was so generous with his time and more than willing to share his expertise. The Scouts of Troop 126 had a great teacher, for sure,” stated MELE VP Deanna Cammarata.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see young people engaged in programs like the Scouts, where they can explore new skills and experiences. Introducing them to horses and livestock not only builds confidence and responsibility but also sparks genuine excitement. Watching their curiosity grow and seeing them connect with the animals makes the effort truly worth it,” Rob added.

Through his patient instruction and mentorship, 11 Scouts successfully earned their Equestrian Badge, which is a major milestone in their scouting journey.
