Emergency Response Experts & Operations

picture8The MELE Team has a broad range of emergency response capabilities. Through its support to programs such as the NNSA Office of Radiological Security (ORS), the Office of Counterterorrism and Counterproliferation (NA-80), and the Office of Emergency Management (NA-40) as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, MELE provides emergency response expertise with a focus on responding to incidents involving Weapons of Mass Destruction. MELE personnel support the development, planning, and execution of response training programs including coordination with Y-12 on Alarm Response Training and Customized Alarm Response Training. These training programs provide law enforcement and site security personnel the training and tools require to respond to a radiological theft event.

MELE response specialists plan and implement the Silent Thunder and Isotope picture9Crossroads Tabletop Exercise Programs, which promotes coordination amongst emergency response agencies for a radiological theft event. MELE personnel are also contributing to efforts overseas to develop national plans and training for radiological response and supporting the development of Interpol’s Radiological and Nuclear Investigations Course (RNIC).

We provide assets to deploy to the field during operations and training events in support of joint operations with the FBI Hostage Rescue Team and WMD units and DoD Special Operations forces involved in the counter WMD mission both domestically and internationally.

MELE deploys specialists for emergency operations and special event counter-terrorism operations at events such as the Super Bowl, Presidential Inauguration, any National Security Special Events (NSSE). MELE provide operation as support to the DOE Nuclear Incident Team.

We provide operational and programmatic assistance to the NNSA/DOE Emergency Operations Center and all the tasks associated with operating 24-hour operations and sustaining COOP locations to ensure continuity in operations in the event of an emergency.
