RECENT PAST PERFORMANCE

U.S. Department of Energy – National Nuclear Security Administration – GTRI

Overview: Originally the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) International Radiological Threat Reduction (IRTR) Program, now the Office of Global Threat Reduction, is responsible for reducing the risk of radiological terrorism through international efforts to improve the control and security of radiological materials that could be used by a terrorist in a radiological dispersal device (RDD).

YFH provides program management support and technical consulting support from subject matter experts (SMEs) who are extremely familiar with the GTRI program projects, policies, functions, strategies, and internal workings as well as excellent historical familiarity of DOE nonproliferation programs. The YFH SME supports a number of program management and implementation activities including support for strategic planning development and implementation and project implementation support in the following areas:

U.S. Department of Energy – PNNL – Radiation Detection for Beijing Olympics

Overview: The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing will bring the world’s eyes to China, as the world’s best athletes will compete in their respective sports.  Security is a major concern, as high profile events catch the attention of terrorists who seek to disrupt peace.

Though the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, YFH is distributing 30 portable radiation detection systems, manufactured by Canberra, to the Chinese Government for use during the 2008 Summer Olympics. The distribution of these portable detection systems will play a critical role in keeping venues secure from the potential radiological attacks, keeping the millions of fans who are expected to attend safe.

YFH is distributing 20(qty) KS-2 InSpector™ monitors as well as 10(qty) IPRON-N Intelligent Neutron Probes for InSpector™ 1000 monitors. The InSpector™ 1000 is a high-performance, hand-held NaI spectrometer for use primarily in first responder, customs, homeland security, and health-physics applications. One-click simplicity masks the sophisticated spectral processing facilities that lie within the instrument – providing a level of performance previously available only in more complicated laboratory systems. The InSpector 1000 enables users from law enforcement officers to Health Physics technicians the ability to obtain the results they desire with an easy to use, intuitive interface. The InSpector 1000 hand-held multichannel analyzer represents a breakthrough in a number of areas. The most significant of these is that it is the first digital hand-held analyzer that relies on sophisticated real-time spectral processing. Previously this was only available in high-end computer-based laboratory systems. This neutron probe is designed to meet the ANSI N42.34 standard and the IAEA requirement for HHRIID.

YFH, in collaboration with MELE Associates and Canberra, has successfully worked together on a variety of radiation detection and global threat reduction projects for the Department of Energy. The three corporations have successfully installed two radiological monitoring systems in Hawaii, along with providing technical and project management support to Office of Global Threat Reduction (NA-21).
