POSITION SUMMARY

The Construction Inspector will inspect the work of contractors involved in the construction of airport, highway or other project to ensure compliance.

Essential functions include:

  • Monitor, record and inspect progress on the construction project.
  • Research and interpret contract requirements to determine whether construction work is performed in compliance with plans, specifications and special provisions.
  • Perform quality assurance inspections to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on all phases of highway and bridge construction, such as paving, structures, striping, grading, SWPP, drainage, sewer, water, utility relocations, electrical installation, sign installation and landscaping items.
  • Advise Resident Engineer and/or owner of any failures or delays.
  • Prepare Daily Diary which records measured and track quantities, labor, equipment and extra work.
  • Review shop drawings within area of expertise for conformance with design concept.
  • Schedule, plan, coordinate and complete site inspections. Coordinate third-party special material testing inspections.
  • Maintain an awareness of safety and health requirements and assuring compliance of applicable regulations and contract provisions for the protection of the public and construction project personnel.
  • Keep the Construction Manager informed of conditions which could result in contract change orders and/or delays and assist in proactively resolving these situations.
  • Perform all other duties as necessary and assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience in construction or construction related field activities. 
  • Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent field experience. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience working as an inspector on projects within state funded agency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in monitoring Contractor’s implementation of traffic control and Storm Water Pollution in accordance with DOT requirements.
  • Good math, communications, computer and organizational skills. May be required to have certification in or other applicable area.
  • Certifications in one or more of the items listed: structural steel & welding, nuclear density aggregate, concrete and asphalt testing, Certified Storm Water Practitioner.
