Goal: Encourage the use of Energy Star standards in new HUD housing stock.
MELE Associates worked to provide the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with practical policy solutions as well as regulatory strategies to encourage the use of Energy Star® standards in HUD housing.
Overview: Using the latest energy-efficient technologies in Energy Star for Buildings, Products and Homes from work at the U.S. Dept. of Energy and the EPA, the MELE Team deployed that expertise to HUD. In support of a project to identify the potential for adopting the Energy Star label as an energy-efficiency benchmark in HUD-financed or insured new single-family or 1-4 unit homes through HUD’s HOPE VI, the HOME program, or the FHA 203(b) single family mortgage insurance program, the MELE Team performed:
- Engineering research
- Cost-benefit analysis
- Testing and design analysis
- Policy and regulatory analysis
