Goal: Design and implement a state-of-the-art cable infrastructure to support a local area network comprised of three isolated security classifications needed to analyze and store vast quantities of data received from all over the globe.
MELE worked closely with the customer during the design of the project to determine the most efficient and secure equipment on the market and continued with the installation, termination, testing and certification of three levels of secure communications, and also provided cable infrastructure during secure compartmental information facilities (SCIF) construction.
Overview: Design and implement a state of the art cable infrastructure to support a local area network comprised of three isolated security classifications. MELE was tasked to develop a complex network that would meet the needs of the headquarters of the Office of Special Investigations. This far reaching division in the USAF relies upon internet telephony and local area networking to analyze and store vast quantities of data received from the far reaches of the globe.
The performance and security demands set forth by the customer dictated that MELE develop a network that relied solely on fiber optic cabling. MELE worked closely with the customer during the design of the project to determine the most efficient and secure equipment on the market. MELE’s engineers partnered with manufacturers to develop a new type of secure fiber connector that physically isolated OSI’s security classifications. Specific requests were addressed including custom-colored cable jackets, close captioned audio video, and adherence to the rigorous specifications of cable installation within a SCIF environment.
The network that MELE installed at the Office of Special Investigations facility at Andrew’s Air Force Base proved to be a model for future projects within the Department of Defense. MELE is still considered by OSI’s construction and engineering coordinators as the “go to company” for any and all of their communication, audio video, and design build engineering needs.
