Renewable Energy
The MELE Energy Group (MEG) is a division of MELE Associates, based in Hawaii, that provides engineering for alternative energy solutions through the strategic use of biomass. Licensing of new technologies is enabling MEG to make biofuel production a smart and affordable alternative to conventional fuel production.
To date, oil has been as high as $112 a barrel - an increase of 373% compared to 2003 when oil was $#0 a barrel. As more recent oil costs have dropped for the time being, other cost factors remain high. The cost impact on municipalities, especially in Hawaii, has taken a heavy toll especially in terms of:
- Electricity Generation
- Transportation
MEG is currently engaged in two projects to assist Hawaii in lowering its dependence on imported fuel sources to alleviate the cost impact on the state's municipalities:
- Developing biomass feedstocks such as Sugarcane and Refuse-Derived-Fuel (RDF).
- Developing an Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) plant ship for energy production.
